Delvin was born in a small farming community in Gentry County, MO, on July 26, 1924 to Hugh and Avus (Summa) O'Banion. His parents were separated when he was 3 months old and he was raised by his mother and grandparents, Ira and Toby Summa. He graduated from high school in Stanberry, MO and attended Union College in Lincoln, NE. Some of his favorite childhood memories include time spent with cousins and grandparents, playing baseball, participating in ciphering matches, and roller-skating. In college he was an active athlete with the Rockets who played football, basketball, volleyball, and baseball. These men deeply impacted his life. Before attending Union College, he served in the Army during WWII, which included a tour of duty to Italy. Nearing the end of this tour he became acquainted with Wilma, the woman who later became his wife. They were married on July 25, 1954. During his life he was a pastor for the Church of God (Seventh Day) in Fresno CA, Denver CO, McAlester OK, Eureka SD, New Auburn WI, Shawnee OK, Oklahoma City OK and Joplin MO. He also served on the Executive Board of the General Conference of the Church of God (Seventh Day), as Central District Overseer and as a member of the License and Credentials Committee. Even in retirement, he kept busy delivering pizza, driving an airport shuttle, cleaning computers and working for an insurance company. Delvin was an outgoing person who quickly became acquainted with strangers. To the end he remained a trusted advisor and compassionate encourager.
