Denis William Bluel was born in Eustis, Nebraska on April 2, 1945 to William and Ruth Bluel. He passed away peacefully at home after a courageous fight against ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease on June 7, 2007. Denis grew up in Nebraska and lived there until being drafted into the Army in 1966. He married Carolyn Johnson and then served his two years in the U.S. Army at Fort Hood, Texas. They then moved to Denver, Colorado where they raised two wonderful children, Jarrod of Gothenburg, Nebraska and Melissa of Lakewood. Denis had a long career with the Federal Government working for the Veteran's Administration, Fish and Wildlife, and Housing and Urban Development. He loved to garden, to watch baseball, and travel, especially to MLB parks. He is survived by his wife, his children, and two grandchildren, Carey and Hannah of Wheat Ridge; brother Gary (Ann) of Gothenburg, Nebraska; two sisters, Marjorie Timm of Eustis, Nebraska and Ellen Bluel of Santa Maria, California. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Wilma Sturgeon of Holdrege, Nebraska. Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Phillips United Methodist Church, 1450 South Pierce in Lakewood, CO. Private burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Denis' name to MDA/ALS Division, 720 South Colorado Blvd., Suite 380S, Denver, CO 80246. His dynamic presence will be missed by his family and his many friends, who will all remember him for the amazing way he dealt with his ALS.
