Dennis Ray Hensley

Dennis Ray Hensley, 73, of Centennial, Colorado, stepped into heaven on January 13, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. Dennis was born September 19, 1945 in Lawrenceville, Illinois to John Raymond and Bernice Shroyer Hensley.

 

Dennis grew up in Illinois and as a young man he had numerous jobs: picking gladiolus and hauling melons. Dennis served in the national guard which led to his career driving for Texaco. He drove a gasoline tanker for 34 years, never missing a day of work for 26 years and he earned a 2,000,000 mile safe driving award.

 

Dennis married his childhood sweetheart, Rita R. Towles in 1972. Together they had two children, Averil Renee, in 1973 and Mitchell Ross, in 1976. Dennis' most important interest was spending time with his family. Dennis was a car enthusiast and never met a dog he didn't love! Dennis loved road trips and even though he drove for a living, taking a drive was a joy!

 

Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Rita R. Hensley; daughter, Avery Kurtz and husband, Dustin; son, Mitchell Hensley and wife, Joan; grandchildren, Colton Raymond and Casey Jean; and sister, Peggy Kull. Dennis is preceded in death by sisters, Joan Shaw and Eve Audis.

 

Visitation will be Monday, January 21, 2019, 10:30 - 11 AM, with Funeral Services honoring Dennis at 11 AM, all at Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church, 13231 E. Mississippi Ave., Aurora, CO 80012. Interment will follow at Elizabeth Cemetery, Elizabeth, CO.
