Dennis Elden Melius was born March 29, 1939 in Minot, North Dakota and passed away at his home in Aurora, Colorado on October 18, 2008 at the age of 69. Dennis, known to many as Denny, was raised in NE Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1957 and Minot State University in 1966. After graduating from college, Dennis relocated to St. Louis, MO where he was introduced to Sharon Jackson by his co-worker and brother-in-law to be, Lee Coad. Dennis and Sharon were married on July 1, 1967 and five years later their only child, Sarah, was born. After living in the Chicago area for 11 years, the Melius trio headed west to Colorado and eventually called Aurora, Colorado home. Dennis was a very caring and loving husband and father. He enjoyed participating in political and philosophical discussion and debate, investing in the stock market, puttering around his backyard sanctuary that he created from his imagination, visiting with friends and family and always reading a newspaper and a good book. His loving family includes: his wife, Sharon (Jackson) Melius Aurora, CO, daughter Sarah Ellen Melius, Denver, CO, siblings, Dean (Darlene) Melius, Minot, ND, Dona (Gordon) Rennie, San Antonio, TX, Sidney (Angie) Melius West Hartford, CT, and Sherry (Tom) Durrenberger, Niceville, FL, brother-in-law, Bob Rosenblatt, St. Charles, MO, and sister-in-law Becky (Leo) Broughton, Minot, ND and many special and much-loved nieces and nephews. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Anna Mae Melius, brother, Gary Melius, sisters-in-law Audrey (Jackson) Rosenblatt, Charlene (Jackson) Coad, Rhea (Elman) Melius, brother-in-law Lee Coad, nephews, Robert Rosenblatt and George Rosenblatt and step father, Melvin Kolden. A private memorial service will be held in November. In lieu of flowers and plants, the family suggests memorial donations to National Jewish Health, which had helped Dennis so much over the last several years, or the Denver Hospice.
