Derek Grant Matthes

Derek Grant Matthes, 34, died suddenly on May 13, 2010. He was born in Denver and graduated from Cherry Creek High School in 1994. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1998 and returned to Denver to make his home. Derek is loved and survived by his daughter Sierrah Matthes; mother Ginny Matthes (Bob Pitz); father Larry Matthes; step-mother Barbara Matthes; grandmothers Betty Uber and Dorothy Haney; sister Shelly Matthes Smith and her husband Ryan Smith; step-sister Kristin Barendsen; step-brother Eric Barendsen; and Derek's loving partner Nicole Travis. He is also survived by many loyal friends and caring extended family. Visitation will be Thursday, May 20, 2010 from 5-8pm, and the Funeral Service will be Friday, May 21, 2010 at 10am; both at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel located at 3101 South Wadsworth Boulevard in Lakewood. Interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Derek's name to the VA Hospital, 1055 Clermont Street, Denver, CO 80220.
