Dewey James Bushaw was born October 29, 1929 to Lillian Viola (Brinton) and Owen Henry Bushaw in Grand Forks, ND. He entered eternal life at the age of 91.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Patricia Rae Bushaw, and eight of his nine siblings.
He is survived by one sister, Colleen Hauser; his children: Dewey P. Bushaw, Daria Fuksa, Patrice Winkelman and Mark Bushaw; nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Dewey graduated in 1947 from Central High School in Grand Forks, ND. He continued his schooling at the University of North Dakota and graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering.
Upon graduation from the University in 1951 he joined the US Air Force. He spent the summer and fall of 1951 going to school at the University of Chicago to receive the necessary schooling to be a weather forecaster (Meteorologist) for the US Air Force. While in the service, he was stationed in both California and Paris, France.
Dewey and Pat met and dated in their last years at the University of North Dakota. Shortly after graduation he and Pat married in Grand Forks, ND, in 1952.
Dewey was discharged from the US Air Force as a Captain in 1955. He and Pat left Paris and returned to Grand Forks, ND, where Dewey went back to school and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology in 1957. Geology was his real passion.
He worked as an exploration geologist for Carter Oil Co. in North Dakota, Humble Oil Co. in Texas and Exxon Oil Co. in California, Colorado and Texas.
Dewey and Pat retired in Houston, Texas in 1986 after Dewey’s thirty-year career with Exxon. In 2008 they made the move to Denver to be closer to their two daughters.
Once retired he happily played golf for many years. He took two grand road trips from Houston to Denver and from Denver to Grand Forks with his son, Dewey Paul, and his Grandson, Dewey Scott, which made a trio of Dew’s! He was also a voracious reader. Always had a book and several sitting in reserve next to his reading chair.
We will miss him being a large presence in all our lives. He will now guide us from above.
Burial will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers we ask that Catholic Masses be said in his memory or donations made to the Colorado Palliative & Hospice Care organization, 6551 S Revere Parkway, Suite 130, Centennial, CO 80111. coloradophc.com
