Diana G. Gonring

February 17, 1931 — February 6, 2012

Diana Gonring died February 6, 2012, just shy of her 81st birthday and after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease. A retired homemaker, handywoman, church administrator and real estate agent, she moved from Omaha to Denver in the mid-1950s. She came to Denver to work for the Department of Health and Hospitals, where she met her husband Bob. They were married in 1959 and enjoyed 37 years of marriage until Bob's death in 1996. Together they were blessed with four children, Melissa, Phillip, Nancy and Todd. Diana was a devout and liberal catholic and charter member of St. Jude's Church and Christ on the Mountain Church. At different times in her life, she was also an energetic member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and Saint Joseph's Church. She taught CCD, chaired numerous committees, and actively assisted the Little Flower Center and the Jeffco Action Center. She worked as the Church Administrator at Christ on the Mountain for many years. Diana was particularly interested in social justice and peace. A faithful Democrat, Diana worked along side her husband and children to help ensure the election of social justice-minded candidates and campaigned for causes dear to her heart. An avid reader and lifelong learner, Diana became a biblical scholar in her late-60s, thoughtfully studying the Bible for 4 years. She graduated with high marks from the Catholic Biblical School of Denver in 2002. She loved to hike and enjoyed spending time in the Colorado mountains with her family. She was a member of the Silver Sneakers at the Golden Recreation Center and was also a yoga enthusiast and one of the founding members of Yoga for Parkinson's in Golden. Diana was an expert seamstress, gourmet chef, master carpenter, first-rate gardener and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her husband and her children very much. She also adored and was continually proud of her 10 grandchildren, Dax, George, Dakota, Cate, Alamea, Clara, Alden, Zoe, Eliza and Gabriel. Her husband and children lit up her life and her grandkids added the sparkle. Mom/Grandma was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all of us. We are truly blessed to have known her and to have shared her life. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, 10:30 AM at Christ on the Mountain Catholic Church, 13922 West Utah Avenue, Lakewood, Colorado 80228. Committal to follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, Colorado 80235.
