DIXIE LEE HANNA

December 19, 1926 - June 11, 2019

Dixie Lee (Geimer) Hanna, age 92, passed away peacefully June 11, 2019 in Denver, Colorado. Dixie was born December 19, 1926 in Prescott, Arizona to Robert E. Geimer and Cora Louise (Hill) Geimer. She was the granddaughter of Prescott's prominent pioneer merchant Samuel Hill, who from a small beginning in 1877 built one of the most considerable hardware businesses in Arizona-the historic Sam'l Hill Hardware Company.

After graduating from Prescott High School in 1944 she moved to Denver, Colorado to attend Colorado Woman's College for two years before earning a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing at the University of Colorado School of Nursing in 1950. It was there she met a handsome University of Colorado medical student, Donald Dean Hanna, who became her loving and devoted husband for 69 years. With Dean she led a full and active life in Colorado, raising 4 children, and being a role model and mentor to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In the summer Dixie could be found most days enjoying the sun, fun, family and friends at Skyline Acres Swim & Tennis Club, where she was a fearsome tennis league competitor. She continued to play competitive tennis well into her 80s. Winter found her enjoying more sun, fun, family and friends on the slopes of Winter Park ski area.

Dixie was active in many volunteer activities including Freedoms Foundation of Colorado and the Porter Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, which she founded and continued to work as a volunteer weekly for over 60 years. She was a member of St. Michael & All Angels' Episcopal Church for more than 60 years, serving on the Altar Guild where she was renowned for her tireless energy and dedication to making sure every detail of every part of the church was beautiful and perfect. Her gift of a needlepoint piece she created inspired the formation of St. Clare's Needlepoint Guild in 1975. With St. Clare's she taught over 120 people to needlepoint and spearheaded over 600 needlepoint projects for which St. Clare's received national recognition.

She was preceded in death by her sister Betty Jo (Geimer) Mobley; and joined in eternity by her husband Donald Dean Hanna on July 11, 2019. Survivors include children Deborah (Randolph) Mack of Emigrant, Montana; David (Lisa) Hanna of Durango, Colorado; Dick Hanna of Denver, Colorado; Dianne (Carl) Peterson of Loveland, Colorado; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Above all else Dixie is remembered as a kind, generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with life-long friends too numerous to count. Even those who only met Dixie briefly in passing were touched by her spirit.

""Spread your love everywhere you go; first of all in your house. Give love to your children, to your wife or husband, to a next door neighbor. Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier.""

- Mother Teresa
