Dolores Robinson

March 30, 1927 — December 2, 2012

Dolores (Bachy) Robinson, 85 years of age, of Littleton, Colorado, passed away on December 2, 2012. Dolores (Bachy) Robinson was born at home on March 30, 1927 in a small coal mining town named Dacono, Colorado. Two years earlier the same doctor had delivered a boy named Morley Robinson, also at home. Both of their fathers and grandfathers were coal miners. Both grandfathers and grandmothers were immigrants from Europe. Dolores had two sets of grandparents that lived close to her. Dolores graduated from Frederick High School in 1945 and went to college in Greeley, Colorado. By this time, she had her first date with a soldier named Morley Robinson. They wrote letters to each other on a daily basis during World War II and still have all those letters. Dolores completed five quarters of college in August, 1946 and immediately started teaching at a country school near Longmont, Colorado. She taught five grades simultaneously. Many students traveled to school on horses and kept them in a corral by the school. Besides teaching, Dolores was also the principal and janitor. Her salary was $100 per month, and the school apartment did not have indoor plumbing. Dolores and Morley were married in Longmont on December 22, 1946 and moved to Boulder, Colorado in the summer of 1947. Dolores delivered her first child, Loretta, in the spring of 1948 and moved to a mountain pass near Teton National Park for the summer. Again there was no indoor plumbing. In January, 1950 Dolores moved to Denver and delivered a second child, Louise. In 1951 Dolores moved to Los Angeles, California and she delivered her third child, Larry, in 1952. She moved back to Denver in 1955. Later Dolores worked in an office for the Denver School System. In 1982 Dolores received her college degree at Santa Maria College in California. Dolores was an excellent cook since she started cooking dinners at home on a daily basis when she was sixteen years old. She always loved dancing. Dolores was a loving and generous person who never forgot a relative's or friend's birthday. She was proud of her three children, her seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Due to her husband's work, Dolores moved many times and easily made new friends wherever she lived. In her adult life, Dolores lived in: Boulder, Colorado; Landers, Wyoming; Denver, Colorado; Los Angeles, California; Saint Louis, Missouri; Cape Canaveral, Florida; Lompoc, California; New Orleans, Louisiana; Huntsville, Alabama; Grand Junction, Colorado. During long trips, Dolores loved to reminisce about our common childhood friends in Dacono, Frederick and Firestone. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, December 7, 2012 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 9405 W. Florida Avenue, Lakewood, Colorado. Burial to be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Mountain View Cemetery, 62 11th Avenue, Longmont, Colorado. Memorial donations are suggested to the American Heart Association or to the American Red Cross (see link for address). Please leave memories and leave condolences by signing the guestbook.
