Dolores Smith

Dolores, Dee, Dodie, Nana Dee, Momo….beloved names for a beloved wife, mom, grandma, great grandma and friend to so many.

Dolores was born Dolores Mary Ryan to George and Celeste Ryan on 10-13-1929 in St. Louis, Mo. where she grew up with her brother George and attended Fontbonne Womens college on scholarship. She majored in Biochemistry and  minored in Music. She performed in many city shows in St. Louis singing lead parts and directing .  She continued to sing her entire life including at Fitzsimmons Army Medical  Hospital putting on shows for hospitalized Vietnam vets.

She married Chester J Smith in 1951 and moved to Aurora, Colorado post haste after their wedding.  She then worked in downtown Denver for the labor boards before having her  2nd child.

Dee was always involved in volunteering her talent and time to the church including St. Pius X and St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Churches in Aurora.

She worked for 20 years with the University of Colorado Medical Center, now Anshutz, where she volunteered for 25 more years not stopping till she was 89 years old!

She also played lots of bridge which she loved dearly the game but mostly the good friends!

Dolores leaves behind a legacy of 3 children,  8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

She was generous always with everyone.  She was strong and a good listener.  She knew how to persevere no matter what!   A woman of strength to be modeled after.    You are missed ❤️

Services are as follows:

Visitation will be Monday, 1/17/22 from 4pm to 6pm at Horan & McConaty family chapel in Aurora: 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave, Aurora CO 80014.

Recitation of the Rosary will follow at 6pm.

Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, 1/18/22 at 10:30am at Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church: 19099 E Floyd Ave, Aurora, CO 80013

Reception will follow at the church.

Graveside will be Tuesday, 1/18/22 at 3:00pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Please meet at staging area A by 2:45pm.
