Don Strever, age 84 of Montrose, passed away on March 17, 2015 surrounded by his three sons. Don was born May 20, 1930 and grew up in the Durango area. He was a devoted husband and father and loved spending time with his family, often taking weekend road trips. He had a passion for the outdoors, particularly gold prospecting. In his later years, he became very passionate about gardening and maintained an immaculate yard. He also enjoyed taking jeep trips in the Colorado mountains in search of historic mines. Don was extremely proud of his Military service. He joined the Army at a very young age and served in the Korean War and Germany, most notably with the 14th Armored Calvary and 7th Calvary. He retired after 22 years of service in the Army in 1968. After retirement he went on to work in various other positions in Colorado Springs and the Durango area. He is survived by his three sons: Mark Strever of Strasburg, CO; Matt Strever of Arvada, CO; and Jon Strever of Victor, CO. Brother, Gene Strever of Salida, CO. and two grandchildren, Nathan Strever and Katie Strever of White Bear Lake, MN. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret ""Mickey"" Strever, his brother Jack Strever and sister Madalyn Groblebe. Funeral services for Don will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 23, 2015 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Westminster, CO. Pastor Phil Kieselhorst will officiate. Military Funeral Honors will be conducted Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Littleton, CO. All are welcome to attend. Fort Logan Cemetery will serve as the final resting place for Don and his wife Margaret.
