Donald Kenneth Engelhart

April 7, 1965 — March 18, 2016

Donald Kenneth Engelhart (1965 – 2016) Surrounded by his loving family, Donald ""Don"" Kenneth Engelhart peacefully passed away on March 18, 2016 in his home in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. The last few years of Don's life were plagued with a courageous battle against liver cancer. However, he will always be remembered for his determination, witty sense of humor, and for his tremendous love for his family. Don was born on April 7, 1965 to Jean and Louis (Don) Engelhart in the windy city of Chicago, Illinois. Growing up with three sisters – Jackie, April, and Toni (Glenn), Don was regularly outnumbered when it came to family activities and entertainment choices. This may have been the reason why Don became such an avid sports fan. Beginning with his hometown Chicago Cubs and culminating in his love for the Denver Broncos, there was never a time when ""his team"" was not top of mind. Last month's most recent Super Bowl victory for the Broncos brought happiness and joy during an otherwise difficult time. Don was blessed with a strong will and a desire to make the most of his earthly life. That determination led to multiple careers across diverse fields. For more than eight years, Don served and cared for the elderly as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). He loved his time working for his father-in-law at Bradford Auto Body. And, his love for technology resulted in a Computer Programming degree from Arapahoe Community College and an eventual career as a computer technician. Most recently, Don found success and friendship through his employment at Level 3 Communications. A witty sense of humor was one of Don's greatest gifts. He had the ability to make others laugh and was very quick-minded. Ranging from loving banter to sarcastic jabs, his intellect was so bright that he could disguise an insult with love. Don also enjoyed going to and watching movies. He could recall many one-liners from movies new and old and interject them into conversations with perfect comedic timing. Above all, Don had an unquenchable love for his family. Married to his best friend Shanna Kempf on June 3, 2000 in Littleton Colorado, Don found happiness and joy while spending time with her. Their relationship lifted each other to better places and higher ground. His two sons Nicholas (22) and Michael (13) meant the world to Don. He would do anything at any time to help them become happy and successful in life. His stepmother Linda was also very special to Don as she helped him to see the brighter side of life. Without question, Don's most prized possessions were the memories of his family and the confidence he had knowing that they loved him too. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 11am at the LDS Church on 9800A Foothills Canyon Blvd, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to the American Liver Association in Don's name.
