Donald Bert Gardiner of Lakewood was a loving husband and father. He was a kind man who never spoke an unkind word about anyone, he was an honest man, hardworking and dependable. He was a faithful servant of the Lord.
He was born on April 30, 1924 in Ogden, Utah to Bertram Alfred Gardiner and Lorna Farrell Wilbur Gardiner. He was the second son of four sons and one daughter. Don returned to his home in Heaven on January 23, 2019.
On March 6, 1945 he married, Anna Beth Charlton. She was the love of his life for almost 74 years. They had three children.
Don served in the United States Coast Guard. He joined on November 26, 1942 and served for four years.
After graduating from college with a Bachelorâs Degree in Accounting, Don went to work for Mountain Bell Telecommunications in Salt Lake City, Utah. His job took him to Helena, Montana; Denver, Colorado; Berkley Heights, New Jersey; and back to Denver, Colorado.
He had a love for sports. Don and Anna Beth had season tickets to the Bronco games for many years. When they were tearing down the old Mile Hi Stadium, Don and Anna Beth were given the seats that they sat in for many games. He also enjoyed watching basketball and baseball. Don loved family vacations and tried to visit as many National Parks as he could. Besides visiting family in Utah, his favorite vacation spots were in Glenwood Springs, Colorado and Estes Park Colorado. These vacations always involved hiking trails and were educational. In their travels, they visited every US state.
Donâs philosophy in life was that we should contribute something to life and our fellow mankind and that is exactly how he lived his life. He was a devout Christian in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served his Lord faithfully. He also believed in hard work, honesty and compassion. He was a good example to his family and others.
Don is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Les, Bob, and Larry; and his sister Bonnie. He is survived by his wife, Anna Beth, daughters Paula (Rich) Millsapps and Marsha (Russ) Mackay and his son Mark. He had eight grand children, 17 great grand children, and four great great grand children.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 6465 W. Jewell Ave., Lakewood CO 80232. There will be a viewing at 10:00 am, followed by service at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Crown Hill Mortuary in 7777 W 29th Avenue, Wheat Ridge Colorado 80033. A reception will follow back at the church at 2:00 pm.
