It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald “Gene” Garner, of Parker, Colorado who passed away peacefully at home on May 31, 2024. Gene was born on December 12, 1951 in Denver, Colorado and lived in Colorado his entire life.
Gene loved to travel, especially to tropical destinations. Gene and Terry were avid divers and their passion for diving took them to many beautiful places. Gene also had a passion for golf, sports, geography, history and country music. Gene spent most of his free time with his grandchildren, attending every event, transporting them to and from and spoiling them every chance he could.
Gene led a life of service and retired as a Lieutenant Paramedic Firefighter. He served from 1974 - 2002 at the Aurora Fire Department in Aurora, Colorado. Gene made many life-long friends during his time at the fire department and deeply cherished those relationships. After retiring from the department, Gene concluded his firefighting career at the Rocky Flats Plant near Denver, Colorado. Although Gene was a dedicated and compassionate firefighter, his grandest job was his devotion to his sons and grandchildren. He was best known as “Papa Gene” and this title was his proudest accomplishment. Gene would do anything for his family and made everyone in his life feel special.
Gene is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Terry; his four sons and their families. Jamie (wife Cristie and their children Keegan and McKenna), Craig (wife Heather and their children - Addison, Caleb, Haleigh and Cody), Casey (wife Yolanda and their children - Sladen, Calum and baby Harper on the way) and Chad Garner, who was predeceased (his daughter Macelyn and sister Jordyn).
To honor and celebrate his life, share memories and express our love for Gene and his family,a celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, June 12th, 2024 at Horan and McConaty located at 11150 E. Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora CO 80014.
