Donald Eugene Lay

March 22, 1971 — December 18, 2005

Donald Lay Donald Eugene Lay has gone to prepare the heavens for his family and friends after an unfaltering and courageous 20 month battle with melanoma cancer. The cancer beast slowly took his strength and his stamina but never dampened his warrior spirit. He died as he lived, with great determination, love, laughter and commitment to those he loved. Don was born on March 22, 1971 in Denver, Colorado. He spent his entire life in the Thornton and Westminster areas graduating from Skyview High School in 1989. He then graduated from Metropolitan State College of Denver in 1994 with a degree in marketing. It was here that he met the love of his life, "The best woman in the world," as he would often describe her. They were married in May of 1995 and have built a most beautiful life together, their greatest accomplishment being the births of two beautiful daughters whom Don cherished with all his heart. Don has been a very successful friend, coworker and salesman for Waste Management of Colorado for the last seven years, receiving top sales honors locally and nationally. Last year, in the midst of horrendous biochemical chemotherapy treatment he was able to maintain top national sales honors. Don absolutely loved everything about his life. His family, many friends, coworkers, work and clients. He will be remembered for what he gave to those he knew and loved. These include, but are not limited to, his positive attitude, glowing spirit, and his ability to always see the good in everything. He was blessed with these traits as a young child and gave them as gifts to everyone he knew throughout his short but ever so meaningful life. He is survived by the love of his life Myko, his two brilliant and beautiful daughters Mattison Jane (8) and McKenna Leigh (5), his loving mother Ruth, his sister Karen and her husband Keith Cowling, his brother Rick and his wife Michelle, his life partner and twin brother Ron and his wife Renee, his mother and father-in-law Nick and Noel Polanycia, sister-in-law Zera and her husband Michael, brother-in-law JC Polanycia, 11 nieces and nephews who loved their uncle dearly, and countless other family and friends. Don shaped the character of all who knew him and will be forever in their hearts. It is with great sorrow that we let him go but with great joy that we know he will forever smile down upon us. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, 1:00 PM, at Crossroads Church of Denver, 9725 West 50th Avenue, Wheat Ridge. A memorial fund for Don's daughters has been set up at the Credit Union of Denver, 9305 West Alameda Avenue, Lakewood, Colorado 80226. Published in the Denver Newspaper Agency from 12/21/2005 - 12/22/2005
