Donald Mccubbrey

Donald J. McCubbrey, Clinical Professor Emeritus at the University of Denver, was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 15, 1935. He passed away peacefully in his home in Denver on September 21, 2021.  He is survived by his wife, Janis, and his three children, Heather (McCubbrey) Platz (Lance),  D. Stuart McCubbrey (Marie), and Charles (CJ) Cadwell (Tegan) and two grandchildren, Paul and GraceLian McCubbrey.

Don had a long, distinguished career as a widely-published author of papers, articles, and textbooks. He taught Information Technology and Electronic Commerce at the Daniels College of Business, where he was department chair for 17 years. He also served as president of the University Faculty Senate.

An academic leader and mentor, Don earned the respect and admiration of business leaders, colleagues, and students from around the world for his vision to advance education in creative and imaginative ways.  A lifelong learner and world traveler, Don respected people of all cultures, religions, and countries. If he heard someone with an accent, he would start a conversation, usually in a taxi. “May I ask what part of the world you are from?” he would say. Whatever their native land, Don was sure to know something about their country, and an instant bond was formed.

One of Don’s greatest gifts was to sit back and listen before speaking.  He was often praised for his calm demeanor and thoughtful, quiet elegance. Aside from his three children, Don’s two great loves were cats and the cool, smooth sounds of jazz, most especially Brazilian jazz.

In lieu of flowers and to honor Don’s belief, “There but for the grace of God go I,” friends may donate in his name to the Denver Rescue Mission at denverrescuemission.org

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 1pm at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 1091 South Colorado Boulevard, Denver, Colorado 80246. Family requests masks to be worn and to be dressed business casual.
