Donald D. Poor passed away on December 24th, 2022, at home in Aurora, Colorado at age 75.
Don was born August 25th, 1947, in Fort Collins, Colorado, the son of Joseph and Violet (Uhrich) Poor. He graduated from Ft. Collins High School in 1965 and began working at Woodward Governor Co. as a machinist. He also served as a volunteer police cadet for the Ft. Collins Police Department.
In 1968 he married Carolyn Wilson and were later divorced. They had two beautiful children, Douglas and Rebecca. Don met his current wife, Deborah (Abramson) Poor, and soon married on October 15th, 1976. They had recently celebrated their 46th anniversary.
Don began working for the Aurora Police Department in April 1971. During his career he served as a patrol officer, helicopter pilot, FTO (field training officer), in the Detective Bureau working burglaries and robberies. He was later assigned to the Vice and Narcotics Unit for 17 years, which included a 3 year assignment to the Federal DEA task force. After leaving the narcotics unit, Don returned as a patrol officer to conclude his 31 year career and retired in April 2002.
Don and Deb decided to travel off and on for the next 3 years before Don took a job at Parson's Brinkerhoff E-470 Expressway. He started work as a safety patrolman until being promoted to supervisor. He retired after 7 years.
His hobbies included woodworking, clock making for friends and family, fly fishing, tying his own flies, camping, boating, and many others.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James B. Poor and nephew, James B. Poor II. Survivors include his wife Deborah, son Douglas, daughter Rebecca Arnold and son-in-law, Paul. 5 grandchildren, Janaya, Ayden, Bethany, Ryann and Jacob.
