Donald R. Powers

Donald R. Powers of Northglenn, Colorado passed away May 9, 2018. He is survived by his children, Sharon (Jim) Varner, Shirley (Greg) Brush, Tom (Ruth) Powers & Sandy (Rob) Greathouse; 9 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and brothers, Rich (Elaine) & Ken (Barb) Powers and many nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by his wife, Jean; and sister, Pearl Kaye. Don graduated from Lew Wallace High School in Gary, Indiana in1950. He joined the US Navy shortly after that and proudly served his country until 1954. In 1952 he married his high school sweetheart, Jean Lankford. They were married 58 years until her passing. After leaving the Navy, he entered his apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker. He retired from Local #9 in Denver. He enjoyed oil painting, fishing, hunting, fly tying, leather working, traveling by cruise ship or road trips and spending time with his family. Visitation will be Thursday, May 17, 2018, from 5-8 pm. Funeral Service will be Friday, May 18, 2018, 10 am. Both at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 9998 Grant Street, Thornton. Interment to follow at Highland Cemetery.
