Donald ""Don"" Weyand

April 23, 1931 — February 23, 2018

Donald Weyand, age 86, passed away February 23, 2018. Don was born April 23, 1931 to Henry and Anna Weyand in Pueblo, Colorado. Don is survived by his wife of more than 66 years, Maryruth, by his children Bob and wife Kathy, Valerie, and Dan and wife Kim, and by four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on March 7, 2018 at 11:30AM at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home (11150 E. Dartmouth Ave. Aurora, CO, 80014), with reception to follow. Don was a three-sport athlete at Pueblo Centennial High School. He studied engineering at Wichita State University then went on to work for Boeing and Cessna in Wichita as a draftsman and later as a design engineer. In 1958 he moved his family to Denver, where he worked for Stanley Aviation for 16 years, rising to the position of Manager-Production Design. In 1965 Don and Maryruth started and operated Carousel Productions, producers of radio and TV commercials, records and custom multimedia presentations for major companies across the U.S. On their own Cartay record label they wrote and produced the unofficial Broncos anthem “Make Those Miracles Happen” sung by Jon Keyworth of the Broncos. Created to celebrate the Broncos first Super Bowl appearance, it remains a popular local hit forty years later. Don retired in 1994 and devoted the past 24 years to his large and loving family and his many interests, which included gardening, golfing, investing and fantasy football. Always a keen competitor, Don was as happy cashing a thousand dollar winner at the track as he was beating his buddies at golf for 75 cents. Don had a unique and engaging personality and a sense of humor like no one else. His family and his large circle of friends will dearly miss one of the most interesting and fun people any of us has ever known. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/ or Shriners Hospitals for Children https://www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/shc.
