Donata always enjoyed attending school and was given high enough marks to earn her the privilege to skip a grade and join her older brother in secondary school right before the biggening of the second World War. Nazi soldiers evicted from their home and were relocated to Krakow, Poland and were taken into the care of a family that owned a family farm where she resided for the remainder of the war working odd jobs sewing clothing, tending to the fields, or cooking for the family. After the war, Donata and her Mother returned to their home in Lodz where she met Zygmunt Kowalczyk, a veteran of the Polish army. She bore two children, Lucina, and Walter, where they owned a fruit farm and worked at a grocery store until retirement, when she emigrated to the Chicago, Illinois in 1983. Soon after she met her second husband, Joe Suraski, also a w veteran for the United States navy. With Joe, they moved to Colorado in 1998, and remained happily married until Joe preceded Donata in death in 1999.
Donata loved gardening in her backyard, where she could often be found any time of the day tending to her flowers and growing fresh fruits and vegetables. Many times, Donata travelled on cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean, but most of all loved the Mountains in Colorado. Donata is reunited in Heaven with her parents, her brother, Zenon Kwiatkowski, her daughter, Lucina Nalezinski, as well as both of her husbands, Joe Suraski, and Zygmunt Kowalczyk. Donata is survived by her caring son, Walter Kowalczyk, and her loving grandson Nicholas Kowalczyk.
