Donna Fern Abeyta

Donna (Morrell) Abeyta passed away on February 9, 2015 after a long arduous battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was 77 years young. Donna is survived by her husband Monty, Son Gary, and grandson Stephen. She was preceded in death by her mother Phyllis, father Harry, and her daughter Sherry. Donna was born February 15, 1937 in Denver, CO. She attended South High School where she met the love of her life, Monty, in Cartooning and Illustration class, no less. It was truly love at first sight for both - they dated throughout their high school years, and up until their marriage in 1958. Donna and Monty had two children, Sherry born in 1960, and Gary in 1962. Donna was always a stay at home mom, and as a result the kids were terrific. Sherry passed away in 1988 after battling diabetes for several years. Gary later married Niki Beganski and they had a son, Stephen, who was definitely the apple of Donna's eye. She thoroughly enjoyed spoiling him as much as possible. Donna and Monty lived in the Denver their whole life, and she always lent one hundred percent support for her husband and his many endeavors. Her outstanding personality always made her an instant hit with anyone she met. Donna loved to spend time with her family, travel, and go shopping - probably in that order. Donna and Monty had some fabulous vacations and cruises, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She also loved being around the family pooches as much as possible and had a ball taking them for long walks and outings. She loved the summer - getting tan, and hated the winter - being ""cooped up"", but not for long. She was a huge Broncos fan, especially after John Elway hit town. Before that she shared Bronco time with Joe Namath, who she thought was ""beyond cool"". With her always, the family came first and foremost, and she would also do anything to help anyone - anytime. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Denver Dumb Friends League (Donna's favorite charity). A Celebration of her Life will be held in the Aspen Room at The Heather Gardens Club House, 2888 South Heather Gardens Way (near South Abilene and East Yale Ave.) Aurora, CO on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. Please share your memories of Donna and your condolences messages with the family below.
