Donna Elizabeth Gabrielson Cole

Donna Elizabeth Gabrielson Cole, 89, of Lakewood, Colorado, passed away peacefully at home on November 5th, 2023. Donna was born September 16, 1934, in Laramie, WY, and was raised on the Flying Heart Ranch near town. She was a devoted wife to her loving husband of 61 years, Donald Joe Cole, and a proud mother to her daughters Suzanne Elizabeth Cole-Rice (Robert Rice) and Jennifer Jo Cole (William Maguire). She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

Donna graduated from Laramie High School in 1952 and attended the University of Wyoming where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi.  She was also a member of Eastern Star.  After marrying in 1953, Donna and Joe embarked on a career as a military family living in France, Germany, Alaska, and other states in the Continental U.S.  They moved to Lakewood after retiring from military life in 1976.

Donna was always supportive of her daughters’ endeavors. While they were young, she led Girl Scout Troops and Job’s Daughters; played chauffeur to weekly flute lessons; was active in the marching band booster club; and attended both daughters’ concerts. Other family outings were spent camping, hiking, fishing, and visiting historical sites. Donna was also an amazing cook, from campfire cooking to gourmet dining.  Her cookbook collection was international, obtained during military life. 

Donna and Joe were members of a Square Dance club. They also took more than 35 trips around the country and to Norway with Elderhostel/Road Scholar.

Donna created beautiful cross-stitch and beadwork. She was active in the Foothills Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America since moving to Lakewood.  Over the years she held almost every organizational position available. Donna was a recipient of EGA’s Silver Scissors award in 1997.

Services and burial of ashes will be held in Laramie, Wyoming in 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Donna’s name to a children’s hospital of your choice.
