Donna ""Gail"" (Groberg) Stiger was born to Franklin and Florence Groberg in Clifton, Kansas, on February 25, 1925 and died on January 21, 2010 in South Jordan, Utah. Her father owned a local gas station and died in a truck accident when she was eight. She was raised by her mother in Clifton where she graduated from Clifton High School in 1943. She worked in Wichita before enrolling at Kansas State College (University), where she met Darrel Stiger, and graduated in 1949 with a degree in English. Gail and Darrel were married in Clifton, Kansas on August 15, 1948. She and Darrel roamed the U.S. heartland during the early part of their marriage as he worked as a licensed architect. During those years, she and Darrel lived in Kansas, Wyoming, Montana and New Mexico. Their first child, Pamela, was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1951 and a son, Mark, in Coffeyville, Kansas, in 1954. After years of dodging tornados, a job near the Rocky Mountains beckoned in 1957 and the family moved to Littleton, Colorado. Their third child, daughter Kim, was born there in 1959. They moved to southwest Denver in 1972 and lived there for nearly 33 years where Darrel retired from a career as an architect with the federal government. To be nearer to family, Gail and Darrel left Denver for Fort Collins, Colorado, in 2005, and then relocated to Utah in 2008. Gail was a loving homemaker who enjoyed many of life's simple pleasures. She was a fine cook who loved to share her culinary skills by preparing feasts for the family at many a Thanksgiving, Christmas and other special occasion. One of her true passions in life was growing plants, which she and Darrel enjoyed together in their backyard vegetable and flower gardens. Her love of piano and music was evident in her graceful playing and singing of piano tunes from the 1940's and 50's. She also was a very capable seamstress who enjoyed making clothing for her family. Gail eventually took up the game that Darrel loved and learned to play golf. They golfed and socialized as long-time members of Pinehurst Country Club in southwest Denver and did volunteer delivery for Meals on Wheels. Many years of enjoyment were shared with a succession of dogs that were very lucky to have them as owners. Gail was preceded in death by husband Darrel (2009), and is survived by children, Pam (Wally) Jacobson of Fort Collins, Colorado, Mark (Lora) of Gunnison, Colorado, and Kim (Jordan) of South Jordan, Utah, niece Julie and her daughter Christina, and five grandchildren Erik, Leah, Alex, Aubrey, and Megan. A service honoring her memory will be held on January 29, 2010 at the Horan & McConaty Funeral Home, 3301 South Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, Colorado. Interment will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
