Doris Isbrecht

August 21, 1931 — August 27, 2022

Doris Isbrecht, 91, passed way suddenly on Saturday, August 27, 2022 surrounded by many members of her loving family.

She was born in New York City to the late James and Marion Hunt Thompson. She survived her loving and caring brother James Thompson, who passed away in 1988.  While she spent most of her adult life in Terryville Connecticut, she also lived in Pelham Bay New York, Sandusky Ohio, and most recently, in Arvada Colorado.

She is survived by her 3 daughters, Suzanne Isbrecht of Arvada CO, Lynn DuBois and her husband Jim of Burlington CT., and Marianne Weigand and her husband David of Arvada CO. 4 grandchildren, Jonathan DuBois & his fiancé Radhika Nakrani of Boston MA, Joshua DuBois & his wife Laura of Austin, TX, David Weigand II & his wife Emily of Broomfield CO, Justine Weigand of Broomfield CO. Her only Great-Grandchild, Clark Adam DuBois arrived earlier than expected on August 7th, allowing his Great-Grandmother the chance to see him virtually on several occasions. Many nieces and nephews all that loved her dearly.

Doris worked in the office at Terryville Furniture Store, in Real Estate and for many years in the Plymouth Town Clerks Office. She was very active on Town committees as well as state & local Republican committees. She worked closely on the congressional 6th district committees supporting the campaigns of Congresswoman Nancy Johnson.

Doris was full of life, friendly and outgoing with anyone she met. She was lovingly referred to as Grandma Dunkie by her grandchildren Jonathan and Joshua, because of her love of donuts and her habit of dunking them in her coffee before every bite. David and Justine loved referring to her as Smiley Grandma. At the apartment building where she resided during her retirement years, she took on the role of activities director. She took this role very seriously, planning many outings for the community, including the yearly secret Santa at the local head-start school. She was always watching out for everyone. She lived with and cared for her own parents until their passings, making sure they had every comfort and experience they wanted or needed. If anyone in her life needed her help, solicited or not, she would travel to be there for support. That’s who she was, our Florence Nightingale, and we loved her for that.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022, 10:30am at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church at 12735 W. 58th Ave, Arvada, CO 80002. Doris will then make the journey back to CT for her final resting place next to her parents at St. Marys Cemetery, Terryville CT.

Calling hours will be Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 6-8pm and burial will begin 10 am September 9th from Scotts Funeral Home, Main St Terryville CT
