Doris M. McCormick, 72, of Lakewood passed away on March 19, 2019 at St. Anthony Hospital. She was born on September 21, 1946 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, daughter of the late Charles and Alma (Bernier) McCormick. Doris married Robert Evans on September 10, 1980 and together they shared 38 years of marriage.
After high school, Doris worked as a licensed practical nurse for 12 years. She left the profession to study microbiology and graduated with a B.S. from the University of Rhode Island in 1978. She began graduate work in nutrition, but left to raise her family after moving to Colorado in 1982. During those years she worked at various occupations including editorial services and librarian. In 2004 she and her husband started MicroChem Technologies Inc. and performed feasibility and market studies for clients in Colorado, Maine, California, North Carolina and Sri Lanka in the growing area of bioenergy. Doris served as President of the company.
Doris was a dedicated reader and athlete. She was an avid life-long tennis player. She completed several triathlons and enjoyed recreational biking, swimming and running. Her favorite pastime was travel, and she and Bob took many walking vacations where they would walk for a week, primarily in England. She suffered a spinal cord injury in 2015, which put an end to these activities, but she remained committed to physical activity, primarily at the PEAK Center at Craig Hospital.
In addition to her husband, Bob, she is survived by her children, Matthew of Denver and Lindsey of Philadelphia. She is also survived by seven siblings: Janet Lavalley and her husband, James, of Pawtucket, RI; Arlene McCormick of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Claire Mueller and her husband, Richard, of Golden, CO, Richard McCormick of Mobile, AL; Robert McCormick of Plainville, MA; Joan McCormick of Portland, OR; and Deborah McCormick and her husband, Christopher Dash, of Palmer, Alaska; as well as many nieces/nephews and grandnieces/nephews.
