Dorothe G. Carlson

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on June 20th at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 402 North 1st Street, Lindsborg, Kansas for Dorothe G. Carlson who died on June 6, 2011. Dorothe is survived by three of her four children: Brian Carlson of Old Hickory, Tennessee; Janet Carlson, of Chicago, Illinois and Margo Nyiro of Parker, Colorado; six grandchildren; and her brother Elmer Nelson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alan Carlson; her brother, Leslie Nelson; her sister, Elsie Hanson; and her son, Mark Carlson. Dorothe was born December 28, 1925 in Minneota, Minnesota to Arthur and Hilda (Heggeseth) Nelson. She graduated from high school in Hendricks, Minnesota and then went to Gustavus Adolphus College for two years. In 1943, she met Alan Carlson in Minneapolis, and they later married on June 23, 1946. Alan and Dorothe lived in various cities in the Midwest while Alan worked in the meat packing industry, first as a Plant Engineer (Austin, Minnesota and Fremont, Nebraska) to Plant Manager (Fort Dodge, Iowa) and finally as Vice President of Engineering and Construction at John Morrell in Chicago. Dorothe finished her B.S. in Education at Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska. Dorothe taught English at Fremont Senior High School and at Midland College during the middle 1960s. She also taught high school English in Fort Dodge, Iowa during the 1970s. Dorothe was very active in her churches. She was also an avid bridge player and golfer. She was well loved by family and friends. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to Midland College (Dorothe Carlson Scholarship in English), 900 North Clarkson, Fremont, Nebraska 68025.
