Dorothy Fern (Moore) Adams, affectionately known as Dot, passed away on May 27, 2024, in Castle Rock, CO. Funeral services will be held on June 6th at Horan & McConaty Mortuary at 5303 E. County Line Rd. Centennial, CO. She will be buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
Dorothy was born to Lauretta (Christner) and James Moore on May 12, 1921, in Guthrie Oklahoma, the 3rd child of what would become a family of 8 boys and 2 girls. The devastation of the Dust Bowl and Great Depression lead to the family moving to Denver, CO. Assisted by the hard work, determination, and dedication of her 2 older brothers, Dot was able to continue school and graduate from high school.
December 7, 1941 changed the world for every American and not long after the United States entered the war, Dot’s beloved, Charles (Chuck) E. Adams Jr., was on his way to flight training in California. Dot and Chuck were married on March 24, 1942, and soon thereafter, Chuck was deployed; thus, she began the vigil for the safe return of her brothers and husband.
After the war, Dot and Chuck began raising a family in Rangely, CO. Dot was an active, adventurous woman and loved to square dance, ride horses, fish, hunt and camp. She never shied away from a challenge whether it was snowshoeing in the winter to get into their snowbound cabin or branding cattle. Dot was artistically talented and loved to sew, crochet, paint, and play the harmonica. She accompanied her husband faithfully when he was transferred to Littleton, CO, Midland, TX and Denver, CO. They built their beautiful retirement home in Perry Park, CO where she was able to live, with the assistance of her devoted son, David, until she was 98. For the last 4+ years, Dot has been in the kind and tender care of the dedicated staff at Brookside Inn Skilled Nursing Home in Castle Rock, CO. She was full of easy laughter and a joy to care for until the day of her death.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, each of her 9 siblings (Harold, Clarence, Richard, TJ, Vernon, Bob, Marvin, Betty, Donald), her husband Chuck, her daughter Judy, her son David and her granddaughter Jonnie. She is survived by her daughters Mary and Patty; her son Joseph; 4 granddaughters, CiCi, Teresa, Rebecca and Loretta; great grandchildren Ily, Charlie, Maria and Athena; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends may wish to make donations to the Honor Bell Foundation at www.HonorBell.org. The Honor Bell renders final honors at the conclusion of a veteran’s funeral. The motto “Forged from Honor” reflects the inclusion of artifacts from 12 Colorado soldiers cast within the bell. Among these artifacts are the Aviator Wings of Lt. Charles E. Adams Jr, US Army Air Corps, donated by his wife Dorothy F. Adams.
