Dorothy "Dottie" Dean Roark, a beloved sister, friend, and educator, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025, in Aurora, Colorado, at the age of 85. Born on August 8, 1939, in Del Rio, Texas, Dottie spent her early years in the vast landscapes of the Big Bend area, where her family ranched before moving to Wink, Texas, in 1955.
Dottie's pursuit of knowledge led her to McMurray College, followed by a Master's degree in Education from Texas Tech. Her teaching journey began in Jayton, Texas, but her adventurous spirit soon called her overseas. Joining the Department of Defense, Dottie taught in Okinawa, Japan, a period she cherished deeply. Her passion for education and travel continued as she moved to Europe, where she taught at Air Force bases in Germany and explored the rich cultures across the continent.
Eventually, Dottie returned to the United States, choosing Colorado as her new home. She briefly worked on Pikes Peak and even attended bartender school, but her true calling was in education. Dottie dedicated over two decades to the Aurora School system, where she touched the lives of countless elementary students and forged lasting friendships with her fellow educators.
Throughout her life, Dottie was known for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith. Her legacy is carried on by her surviving brothers, Pap and Robert Roark. She is predeceased by her brothers Bud and Billy Roark, who have undoubtedly welcomed her into eternal peace.
Dottie's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her many friends in Denver and across the country for their enduring love and support. Special thanks are given to June, whose compassionate care and love provided great comfort to Dottie in her final years.
In celebrating Dottie's life, we remember her as a beacon of love, adventure, and education, whose impact will be felt for generations to come.
The family will be hosting a celebration of Dottie's life in the coming weeks! Please reach out to sroark56@aol.com for additional information.
