Dorothy L. Edens, 91, died in her sleep on March 22, 2011 in Denver, Colorado. Mrs. Edens was born in Baltimore, MD on September 22, 1919 to Herbert J. and Anne B. Leimbach. She was a graduate of Notre Dame High School for Girls also in Baltimore. Mrs. Edens began her life as an Army wife when she was married to the late Col. Walter A. Edens (USA Ret.) in 1941 and immediately moved to Panama. Following their initial tour, she traveled with her husband to several different duty stations around the country until his deployment to Germany in 1944. She was one of the first dependents to move to Germany following the war. Upon her late husband's retirement from the Army in 1962, Mrs. Edens and her family settled in Richmond, VA where they remained for 46 years. She was a member of Willow Oaks Country Club as well as the Richmond Women's Golf Association and continued to play golf until her 80's. In addition to her love for golf, she enjoyed doing volunteer work with the Red Cross and at the Fort Lee Hospital. Mrs. Edens was a member of Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. In 2008, she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and later to Denver, Colorado to live near her son. Mrs. Edens is survived by her three children, Joanne Theon and husband John of McLean, Virginia, Susan E. Musselman of Apollo, Pennsylvania, and Walter A. Edens, Jr. and wife Diane of Denver, Colorado; 7 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. Services for Mrs. Edens will be announced at a later date.
