Dorothy Mae Bartels Hicks, 91, of Denver, Colorado, passed away March 14, 2019. She was born April 26, 1927 in Columbus, Nebraska to Elmer William John and Ruth Ilene Munger Bartels.
Dorothy graduated from Columbus High School in 1941. She later attended Brigham Young University, where she graduated with a B.S. in 1954. She served as a Missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Samoa from 1955-1957.
Dorothy met Robert Franklin Hicks while attending BYU. They were married on September 5, 1958 in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Robert preceded her in death in 1997.
Dorothy worked as a Secretary for the U.S. Government for 20 years. She also worked as a Theatre Usher for the Denver Center Theatre Company for 20 years. She volunteered with the AIDS Walk for 30 years, at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science for 19 years, at the Denver Public Library for 20 years and at the Molly Brown House Museum for 2 years.
Because of her incredible love of learning, Dorothy attended Metropolitan State University of Denver, where she graduated with another B.S. in 1994.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, Rachel Hicks, Howard W. Hicks and Nelson M. Hicks; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Funeral service will be held at 1:00pm, on Tuesday, March 26th, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 740 Hudson Street, Denver, CO 80220. Friends are welcome to visit with the family from 12-12:45pm at the Church.
A Graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, March 27th, at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 2460, 12801 W. 44th Ave., Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
