Dorothy Jane Christofferson Johnson passed away October 31, 2015 at the age of 89. She was born March 30, 1926, to Elmer and Marita (Blood) Christofferson in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from the University of Utah in 1948 as a registered nurse. She served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mexico and Guatemala in 1948-50. Dorothy married her eternal sweetheart, Rue Corbett Johnson, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1952. Together they raised five children. The family lived in Utah, Idaho, and Indiana before settling in Appleton, Wisconsin, in 1973. After 38 years of exemplary service to their community and their church in Wisconsin, Rue and Dorothy moved to Highlands Ranch, CO, in 2010 to be near family. While in Appleton, Dorothy served on the Appleton Board of Education. She was elected as the first and only woman mayor in 1980, and served in that office for twelve years. She sat on the Wisconsin Ethics Board for a decade and served as the president of the St. Joseph's Food Program in Menasha WI for many years. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 63 years, Rue Johnson; her younger sister Marlene (Merrill) Adair; her children Chad (Penny) Johnson, David (Lynn) Johnson, Leslie Johnson, Jeffrey (Melody) Johnson, Cathryn (Steve) Grover; her grandchildren Amy Jo (Charlie Karr) Johnson, Natalie (Robert) Fullmer, Ryan (Mariam) Johnson, Adam Johnson, Samuel (Jessie) Johnson, Daniel (Chelsea) Johnson, Eric (Jordan Jacklin) Johnson, Aimee (Benjamin) Haynie, Geoffrey Grover, Jason Grover, Emma Grover, Brian Grover, Mathew Grover; and her great-grandchildren Julie, Katie, Lillian, and Maggie Fullmer. A funeral service with viewing one hour prior will take place on Monday, November 9, 2015 beginning at 11:00 in the morning at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 9800 Foothills Canyon Blvd., Highlands Ranch. The burial will take place in the Salt Lake City Cemetery at 1:00 in the afternoon on Thursday, November 12, 2015.
