Dorothy Rae Keane, age 95, beloved mother and friend to many, died at Denver Hospice Inpatient Care Center on Saturday, Feb. 18, after spending the last two years at Sunrise at Cherry Creek. Born Jan. 29, 1922, to Beatrice and Joseph Smith in San Francisco, Calif., she was happily married to Lt. Col. (Army) John Matthew Keane for 27 years, until his death in 1970. As a military family, they traveled around the United States until his retirement from the Army in 1959, when they settled with their three children in Santa Rosa, Calif. Prior to moving to Sunrise, Dorothy resided for nearly 30 years in Centennial, Colo., where she was a member of Hope Methodist Church. She enjoyed travelling, reading and being with people before experiencing a number of health issues over the last few years. A wonderful mother and adored by her children, Dorothy is survived by daughters Joan Margaret Keane (son-in-law Paul Quinn) and Jayce Maureen Keane; son, James Michael Keane (daughter-in-law Theresa Keane), grandsons Brian Keane and Michael Keane, and numerous loving extended family members. A gentle soul, known for her loving, kind and generous heart, she was truly a blessing to all who had the opportunity to know and love her (and be loved by her). Her children are heartbroken by her passing. A memorial service followed by a reception will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, at Horan & McConaty, at 1091 S. Colorado Blvd. Denver, Colorado. Relatives and friends are welcome. Please share your memories of Dorothy and condolences with her family in the Guestbook link below.
