Dorothy M. Kellogg

May 27, 1921 — April 21, 2017

Dorothy Kellogg, 95, was born May 27, 1921 to Lawrence Miller and Helen (Shuber) Miller. Raised in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, she graduated in 1939. To join the war effort, Dorothy worked in a war factory as a ""Rosie the Riveter."" Dorothy's first husband, Willard ""Stub"" Burt, was killed in action on her birthday in 1944, three months before the birth of her first son Michael. She married her second husband Lower Kellogg in January 1947. They raised their children in Ohio and in Indiana, where she worked as a school cook and baker. They moved to Westminster, Colorado in the summer of 1972 where she worked at Miller Stockman warehouse until her early 70s. While in retirement, she assumed the role of caregiver for Lower until his passing in 2000. She lived on her own until early 2015. With the care from her son Dana, Dorothy was able to remain in her home, per her wishes, until her peaceful passing on April 21, 2017, five weeks before her 96th birthday. She was preceded in death by her sister Mildred ""Midge"" Heuser and her brother William Miller. Dorothy was an incredibly strong and independent woman who cared deeply for her four sons and their families. She was an avid reader who exhausted the book selection of her genre of choice at the local Senior Center. A lifelong Catholic, Dorothy was active in the Holy Trinity Church community from the time she moved to Colorado. Dorothy was an avid baker who spoiled her family, friends, and church community with pie, cookies, brownies or cake at all occasions; quick to apologize if she did not have a baked good to offer a visitor. She was not one to make a fuss over her self, but who loved to hear your story. She was sharp witted and inquisitive. She told you she loved you and God Bless every time she saw you. Dorothy was our mother, our grandmother, great-grandmother, our friend. She will be missed. She is survived by her four sons Michael (Carol) Kellogg, Brian (Joan) Kellogg, Dana Kellogg, and Joel (Nancy) Kellogg. Dorothy is also survived by nine grandchildren: Paul Lopez, Steven (Paula) Lopez, and Julie (Kevin) Keena; Kate (Aaron) Michaels, Michelle Kellogg, and Matthew Kellogg; Alexandra Kellogg, Samuel Kellogg and Arline Kellogg; and nine great grandchildren: Scott and Noelle Lopez; Steven A. and Brenden Lopez; Marlowe, Charles, and Andrew Keena; Ryan and Olivia Michaels. And survived by Mary Pat (Clyde) Wiley, Ruth Gels Kellogg, five nephews and two nieces. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 3rd 10AM, followed by the Funeral Mass at 11AM, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 7595 Federal Boulevard; luncheon to follow. Interment will be in the Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Holy Trinity Church School, 3050 West 76th Avenue, Westminster, CO 80030.
