Dorothy Lovato passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014, at her home in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. She was 67 years old. She was born July 9, 1946 in Las Vegas, New Mexico, the daughter of Pedro and Ida Garcia. She was one of seven siblings. After graduating from high school, Dorothy married Porfidio Lovato, her husband of 49 years and moved to Colorado in 1964. She received her associates Degree in education. She worked for 38 years in the Sheridan school district's Head Start program. As a parent teacher coordinator, she counseled hundreds of families and had a passion to ensure children received educational opportunities and medical services. She served as a Board Member for the Inter-Faith Community Services Organization who provided resources and programs to low income families. Dorothy's greatest pride was her family. She was a dedicated wife and partner that relished in spending time with her husband and never missed an opportunity to dance with him. She was devoted to her two sons, Ken and Kelly. She took great interest in her son's athletic activities and greatly enjoyed the many camping, boating and trips to Lake Powell as a family. Dorothy was a person of profound integrity and honesty. Following her retirement, she committed much of her time to her parents and grandchildren. Dorothy will be missed by her husband, Porfidio Lovato; her two children Ken Lovato and Kelly Lovato; her grandchildren, Jacob, Kaleb and Addison; her mother, Ida Garcia; her siblings, Mary Ulibarri, Gino Garcia; Edward Garcia and Annette Brott. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014, 9:00am, Horan & McConaty, 5303 E. County Line Rd. Memorial contributions in Dorothy's honor are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Susan G. Komen foundation.
