A memory from Darcy's son in law:

The Other Mom

Let me be a son-in-law that can tell you I never had an issue with my mother-in-law, like all the funny horror stories you hear about.

Was she perfect, nope! Was she my friend, yes. Was I perfect, nope! But I know she loved me and was my friend.

Darcy was my drive me crazy side, she could drive me nuts and yet I would come away laughing at the antics and jokes we shared. She bought me puzzles and games , thinking I couldn’t solve them, then be “angry” (yeah, not) when I solved them fast.

She made me pies for my birthday, always took time to say I was getting old….and I always told her I aged like a fine wine….not like a side of beef!

My best memory of her was when she visited us in Texas. I spent a few days alone, with Stacey having to work…. It was a fantastic 3 days for me. We talked, read books, shared breakfast and lunch together on the patio, and sometimes, we just watched the doves and the dogs in the yard in silence. I’m sorry I never told her how much that time meant to me, I guess I just thought she’d be there and we could laugh about it later.

Darcy passed away on March 10th. We were lucky to be able to share a call with her, even though she could only listen to our antics. She met a ton of my friends and all of my family, she shared many meals with me in our home and hers, we had a few arguments but we had way more laughs.

And now, I’ve shared a bit of my Other Mom, hopefully you had a chance at one point to meet her or you will learn something of a woman I will miss greatly!

Appreciate every day and never think it’s ok to wait to say something to someone that means something special!
