Douglas David Crane

December 15, 1958 — March 8, 2016

Douglas David Crane passed away unexpectedly on March 8, 2016 in Colorado. Doug was born on December 15, 1958 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Dave and Jeanine Crane. During high school the Cranes relocated to Colorado, where he later attended college and met and married his wife of 32 years, Catherine O'Brien. Not long after they were married the second love of his life arrived when daughter Catelin was born. During Doug's 35-year career with Schindler Elevator, he, Cathy and Cate relocated to multiple states. Despite all of his efforts otherwise, Doug formed many important and lasting relationships with family, friends, neighbors and coworkers. Through the years, he truly perfected the cranky old man persona. People who knew him well (and understood his sense of humor) knew that he was a very caring, loving, devoted man who would do anything for those around him. In the past 10 years he became involved with the youth group at Calvary Baptist Church, which may initially seem surprising, but was a perfect fit for his maturity level. He always knew how to use humor to connect with people and the kids loved him for it. What the kids may not have known is how much he loved them and how much they meant to him. If he ever called you dimehead, knucklehead or pinhead you should know he loved you. Doug is survived by Cathy and Cate, Cate's husband, Henry, and 1.5 grandchildren, his parents Dave and Jeanine, his sister Dani, her husband Marty and their three children Morgan, Connor and Kyle. He is also survived by Cathy's parents, Dave and Lucy, her brother and sister-in-law David and Kristine, their two children Jenn and Sarah, her sister and brother-in-law Susan and Bruce, their two children Ethan and Abbie, and her brother John. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Recently, his granddaughter, Annabel, became the new love of Doug's life. Annabel called Doug her Babu, and we wish she could have known him for much longer. Those who understood and loved Doug will miss all of his quirks and his exceptional music recommendations. Those who never quite understood his sarcastic sense of humor – please know that he gained some enjoyment from being misunderstood. You could show your appreciation for Doug by having a Diet Coke, a Big Gulp or ditching your socks for a day.
