Douglas Michael Free passed away at home surrounded by close family on the night of July 2, 2021. He was 59 years old. He will be remembered as a great husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, instructor, mentor, and colleague by countless people he touched with his strong faith, outgoing personality, and interminable humor. He was a great inspiration to his family and friends, providing good counsel and loving leadership. He was a highly dedicated colleague in his life’s work, always taking something good and striving to make it better through gentle guidance and wisdom. Doug was an avid musician, runner, and grill master, and never missed an opportunity to deploy these passions to make a new friend and uplift those around him. His exuberance for life and loving heart will be missed. Doug is survived by his wife, Dusty, and two sons, Robert and Connor. The youngest of eight, he is also survived by his three brothers: Dennis, David, and Donald; four sisters: Donna, Dianne, Debra, and Doreen; as well as their spouses, children, and grandchildren. Doug’s parents, Bernard and Ann, preceded him in death and welcomed their beloved son to heaven, joined by their granddaughter, Doug’s niece Laura. A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at the Flatirons Community Church in Lafayette on Monday, July 19th, 2021 at 10am. Virtual attendance is also available at www.flatironschurch.com/memorial. It was his wish that donations in his memory be made to iEmpathize, an organization that focuses on education and training to prevent human trafficking.
