In Loving Memory of Douglas Mills Greenlee
“Dug, Doug, Duggy”
Douglas Mills Greenlee was born on June 28, 1969, in Los Gatos, California, to Loyd and Sharon Greenlee. He passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024, after a courageous year-long battle with glioblastoma. Shortly after his birth, the family returned to Colorado, Loyd’s home state, where Doug, alongside his siblings, Amii and Nathan, grew up in the Columbine area, and attended Columbine High School.
A Passionate Life and Career
Doug was a self-taught acoustical engineer and a dedicated fly fisherman—two passions that he pursued with unmatched enthusiasm and expertise. His love of learning extended to history, where he delved deeply into stories of the past.
Professionally, Doug reached the pinnacle of his career in Hollywood and founded his own company, Sound Kinetics. Through his work, he collaborated with renowned artists and filmmakers, including Maroon 5, Hans Zimmer, Apple Siri Studios, Bob’s Burgers, Steven Spielberg, and Bruce Botnick, among many others. Locally Doug worked on many projects, including the Ellie Caulkins Opera House and the Gates Planetarium. Doug was a pioneer in immersive audio technologies that paved the way for innovations like Dolby Atmos.
Adventures and Travels
Doug had a profound love for travel, sharing this passion with his family, especially his brother, Nate. Together, they explored destinations around the world and across the United States, seeking out history, natural beauty, adventure, and culinary delights.
A highlight of Doug’s life was a 2022 heritage trip to Prussia and Norway, where he and his siblings, Nate and Amii, connected with their ancestral roots and met distant relatives at the family fjord and farm in Haugesund. Doug and Nate also spent two unforgettable weeks in Normandy, retracing the footsteps of their great uncles during the D-Day landings in World War II.
A Life Outdoors
An avid outdoorsman, Doug spent nearly every Saturday climbing mountains or fly fishing in Colorado’s breathtaking wilderness, often accompanied by close friends. These excursions typically ended with great food, meaningful conversations, and a tasty beer. Sundays were dedicated to church and cherished moments with family.
Doug, Nate, and Amii had been building a family vacation cabin in southern Colorado—a project close to their hearts. This cabin will now stand as a lasting memorial to Doug, Sharon, and Amii, where their memories will live on in the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
Family and Legacy
Doug is survived by his brother Nathan, his father Loyd, his brother-in-law Bill Rasmussen, and his beloved nieces, nephews: Cole Rasmussen, Drew Rasmussen (Liz), Jade Hartsuiker (Keith), Asia Rasmussen, (great-nephews) Levi, Asher, Judah and Benji Rasmussen. He also leaves behind countless friends who were touched by his warmth, humor, and passion for life.
He was preceded in death earlier this year by his mother, Sharon, and his sister Amii.
