Doug was born on February 17, 1938 in Oak Creek, CO, to Nelle Leona Miles and Douglas Victor Parker. Growing up, starting at about age 12 or 13, he worked on his family’s ranch. After graduating from high school, he attended Western State College in Gunnison, CO. He later obtained his Airline Dispatcher license. His career was with the airlines, including Pan Am, Rocky Mountain, Frontier, Discovery, and Aspen/United Express, in Los Angeles, Wake Island, Honolulu, San Francisco, New York, but most of his life in the Denver area. After his airline career, he worked in logistics at Associated Global Systems until his retirement.
A committed Christian and follower of Jesus Christ, Doug dedicated himself to service and attendance in church, serving as a Deacon for homeless ministries and food pantry. He also worked with The Gideons Ministry distributing Bibles. He loved to sing and loved God’s Word.
After Carolyn’s death, Doug married his wife, Evelyn, on October 23, 2010. They met through participation in the Yesteryear Singers where they enjoyed singing and dancing to cowboy music and old classic standards. Doug will be dearly missed for his humor, kindness, generosity, friendship, and wisdom. We fondly remember his marinating and grilling steaks in papaya and making perfect sandwiches.
