Douglas Patton

Douglas Stannage Patton, MD died Tuesday Nov. 24th at age 79 in Aurora, Colorado after a complicated illness.

Doug was a native to the bay area. He was born at Peralta Hospital in Oakland to Henry S. and Betty L. Patton on May 10th, 1941. He grew up in Oakland and Piedmont, graduating from Piedmont High School in1958 and going on to Stanford and St. Louis University to study medicine. While completing his residency in St. Louis he met and fell in love with the love of his life, Janet Marie Leins. They married in 1966. After completing his training and a tour in Vietnam, Doug returned to Oakland with his family to take over his father’s medical office on Pill Hill where he continued to practice until he retired. Putting service to God, country and others before himself, he led by example. He was an Eagle Scout, a hard-working and dedicated surgeon who specialized in burns and reconstructive surgeries, a retired colonel from the U.S. Army reserves, an active member of the Oakland medical community and St. Theresa’s Catholic church.

Doug leaves behind his loving wife Janet of 54 years, his children Dianne (Alex) Bautista, Barbara (Jeff) Avila, and Carolyn Patton, 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers  Fred (Jo) Patton of The Dalles, Or. and Greg (Carol) Patton of Vancouver, Wa

Doug loved the outdoors and fishing with his family. He will be greatly missed for his sense of humor and concern for others.

Due to pandemic restrictions, a private ceremony will be held as Doug’s ashes are interred at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Co
