Dr. Gary Vincent Rein, son of Fred and Beverly Rein, was born on September 29, 1949, in Denver, CO. Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Sydlow Rein, her children; Joel Sydlow (Sarah), Paige Horn (Dustin), Kelsey Sydlow (Helios), 6 grandchildren who called him “Gar-Bear”, his sister Cheryle Kimball (CW), her children Josh (Natalie), Andy (Stacy), 4 grandchildren, and his cherished sons Michael Patton (Jamie), Mark Patton (Cass) and their 4 children.
The Rein family lived in Denver until 1952 when Fred Rein’s job took the family to Kansas City, MO. Gary attended school in Kansas City and received his Bachelor’s degree and DDS from the University of Missouri. Notably, Gary completed the four-year DDS program in three years, so he could return to the Rocky Mountains. After nearly 40 years of practicing dentistry in Cherry Creek, he retired in 2013.
Gary was a visionary and a hands-on guy. In junior high school, he drew a plan for his mountain dream home. He built that dream home himself in Clear Creek County and named it “The Rose”.
Gary was an avid outdoorsman and adventurer who loved Colorado’s mountains. He had many friends with whom he shared interests and hobbies: cars, 4-wheeling, skiing, heli-skiing, climbing 14ers, dogs, fishing, country music, and dancing the 2-step. Gary was born a cowboy. He even wore a cowboy hat, boots, and spurs when he married Nancy 22 years ago August 25, 2001.
In Gary’s later years, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Despite the debilitations that come as Parkinson’s progresses, Gary never gave up. He pushed through to stay active and independent. His last adventure in hospice was a trip to Bandimere Speedway and a thumbs up to his yellow Corvette.
Gary was surrounded by all of his family when he peacefully passed away on August 23, 2023. Gary’s funeral and interment will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at 1270 Poplar Street, Denver, CO on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at, 11am. A reception and refreshments will follow at St. Luke’s. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gary’s name may be given to the Parkinson’s Association of the Rockies. May Gary rest in the peace, love and goodness, which he so lavishly showered on us.
