Dr. Jean Elizabeth (Dwyer) Williams
Age 81, of Centennial, Colorado, passed away at home, at the side of her husband, Dr. Richard W. Williams, and son, Christopher T. Williams. Jean was a devoted wife, mother, and friend, having had a loving marriage of over 50 years and maintaining friendships for over 60 and 70 years.
Raised in the Bronx, Jean attended Cornell University and then medical school at the University of Buffalo. She triumphed over discouraging sexist attitudes of the time to become a physician in 1968. She inspired a love of learning, language, literature, music, theater, and other culture in her children and those around her. She was a voracious reader, from classics to paperback mysteries, a tenacious solver of crossword puzzles, and utilized multiple shelves of cookbooks.
Compassionate and charitable, she was an informed citizen with a healthy dose of skepticism and humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Dwyer, and a brother, Bill Dwyer.
She is survived by her husband Richard, sons Christopher (Heather Haney) and Timothy (Lori Beth Jones), brother Richard "Zoot" Dwyer (Kathy), best friends Merle Metcalfe and Madeline Lennon, and nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation or service as Jean, in her sweet, humble way, just requested "a little notice in the paper."
