Dr. John F. Roberts passed away December 12, 2024 at the age of 87. A Colorado native, he was born in 1937, the son of Sara Appel Roberts and Norman Wheeler Roberts. He graduated from Alamosa High School and the University of Colorado with a MD in Radiology. During his time at CU medical school, he traveled multiple times to India to administer vaccinations to do his part to eliminate smallpox from the world. In 1965, he married his college sweetheart and beloved wife, Linda Zimmerman. During John’s service as an Army flight surgeon during the Vietnam War, they lived in Paris France for two years and traveled the world together thereafter. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2015 prior to Linda’s passing in 2016.
John was an avid outdoorsman throughout his life. He had a passion for hunting and fishing which later transformed into a love of golf and walks with his dogs. John and his wife Linda were active members of the Friends of Painting and Sculpture (FOPAS) at the Denver Art Museum. John loved skiing with his family and playing golf all around the world. He will always be remembered for his amazing sense of humor, care for people, generosity, keen appreciation of art, love of travel, and devotion to his beloved pets.
John is survived by his son Mark (Gretchen Hoffmeyer) and their two children, John Paul and Amelia, and his grandsons Brody and Harrison. He is preceded in death by his eldest son Mason and daughter-in-law Janine.
There will be a Celebration of Life on January 11, 2024 from 10 - 12 at Horan and McConaty’s Centennial location. Memorial gifts may be made to the Denver Art Museum, 100 W. 14th Pkwy, Denver, CO 80204.
