Dr. Richard Albert Leahy

Dr. Richard A. Leahy, 96, died peacefully, surrounded by family on December 12, 2016, in Highlands Ranch, CO. He was born on December 14, 1919 in Tiffin, Ohio to Dr. Paul and Olive Garrett Leahy. He attended Calvert High School in Tiffin, The University of Notre Dame, and Loyola University Medical School. He graduated from medical school, was sworn into the Navy, and was married on the same day to Marjorie June Doyle in December 1943. Richard (Dick) was a 3rd generation physician who returned to Tiffin, Ohio after serving as a physician in the Navy, and completing a surgery residency, to practice medicine with his father, Paul. He was a devout Catholic. He was a member of St. Mary's Parish, and then St. Joseph's Parish, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He and Marjorie raised ten children, and opened their home to numerous disadvantaged youth and exchange students. He is preceded in death by his father Paul, mother Olive, brothers Paul, Maurice, and John (Jack), as well as his beloved wife of 70 years, Marjorie. He is survived by his children Mary Kathleen (Donald) Marquet, Dr. Daniel (Kathy) Leahy, Kevin (Mimi) Leahy, Patrick Leahy, Sheila (David) Lee, Teresa (Stephen) Donahoe, Dennis (Dr. Debra Cudnowski) Leahy, Maureen (Douglas) Leahy-Mills, Bridget (Stephen) Leahy-McNutt, Brian Leahy, and 48 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Richard's honor to St. John Vianney Seminary in Denver, CO, or MSF/Doctors Without Borders. (An expanded obituary is currently being created.)
