Dr. Gilbert B. Maestas, 83, of Denver, died January 21, 2009. He was born on the Santa Clara Ranch in southern Colorado. Gil graduated from Regis University and St. Louis University MedicalSchool, was a veteran of WWII in the 15th Air Force. He has served the Denver area in Family Practice for 55 years, delivering over 5000 babies. He served on the Supreme Court Nominating Commission for 10 years, served on the District Attorney's Crime Advisory Commission. He taught medical students and was on the volunteer faculty at the University of Colorado Medical School and the Pharmacy School. He was also a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He is survived by Pat, his wife of 47 years; five children, Kathy Welling, Teri (Frank) Davis, Veronica Garcia, Gilbert ""Gobie"" (Laura) Maestas II, Stephen (Kelly) Maestas; 9 grandchildren Shelley, Dale, Genevieve, Michelle, Antonio, Samantha, Piper, Amelia, Jack; 7 great-grandchildren Joshua, Allyson, Ryan, Alicia, Isabella, Maya, Dominic; 1 great-great-grandson Seth. He was preceded in death by his first wife Stella, one daughter Angelita, his mother Ana Maestas; brothers Pete Maes & Paul Maestas; sisters Lucretia Vigil & Eileen Preeson. Visitation will begin 5:00 PM Monday, with a rosary at 7:00 PM, all at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. A Memorial Mass will be 10:00 AM Monday, February 9, at St. Vincent de Paul, with military honors in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
