Dr. William James Thulin, M.D.

Dr. William James Thulin, M.D., Orthopedic Surgeon, passed away peacefully at home December 22, with his daughter at his side following a brief battle with lung cancer. Bill was born in Denver on August 16, 1927. He was a fifth generation Coloradan native. He graduated from South High School and received his bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Colorado. After one year in the military, he was admitted to the University of Colorado Medical School. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from medical school in 1953 and was a member of the AOA or Alpha Omega Honorary Medical Society which is the highest achievement awarded to any medical student for graduating in the top 10th of their class. He practiced medicine in south Denver for over 50 years. He was truly passionate about his love of medicine and helping his patients successfully recover from orthopedic problems. He touched many lives through his medical practice. Dr. Thulin was married in 1952 and had three children who survive him; Lauren (Jeff) Utigard, Lucy Thulin, Andy Thulin. He is also survived by one granddaughter Charlotte Utigard and his much loved younger sister Mary Ann Massengale who resides in Portland. His family includes many extended family members. In addition to his love of orthopedics, he enjoyed his bird Polly, the opera, skiing, hiking and fishing with his family. His hobbies included running, painting and gardening. He lived a full and long life; he will be sorely missed by his family.
