Dr. Herman Doyle

1927 — January 1, 2022

Denver, Colorado

Dr. Herman Eugene Doyle was born at home in Denver on May 27, 1927, to Herman Peter and Katherine O’Grady Doyle. He passed away peacefully at home on August 6, 2022 at the age of 95.

Gene attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic School from his elementary years through high school graduation. Upon graduation, he enrolled at the Capitol School of Pharmacy and completed his certification. Gene also attended Denver University to earn required science credits for medical school.

During World War II, he served as a Pharmacist Mate in the Navy. Following his discharge from the Navy, Gene was accepted at Creighton Medical School in Omaha, Nebraska. While in medical school, he married Mary Louise Erskine and they welcomed two sons: Michael and Patrick.

After interning at Saint Anthony Hospital in Denver, Gene opened the Harvey Park Medical and Dental Office, with partner Dr. Christy Mauries and welcomed two more children: Kathy, and Mary Louise. Following the death of his wife Mary Louise in 1960, he married Helen Bruce and added her four children to the family: Pauline, Marie, Barbara, and Victor. In 1963, Gene and Helen’s family was completed with the birth of son, Thomas.

Gene was a highly respected family practice doctor for 44 years. During his time in practice, he was a member of the American Medical Association, the Colorado Medical Society, Foothills Medical Society and the Catholic Physicians’ Guild of Denver. Additionally, he served as Chief of Staff at St. Anthony Hospital. Following Helen’s death in 2001, Gene married Teresa Gibbons in 2003 and welcomed her children to the family: Debbie, Stephen, Melinda, Brenda, and Kendra.

Gene attended All Saints Catholic Church for many years and was a founding member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, where he served on the Parish Council. Gene was truly a man of faith, family, and service. He was actively involved in his parish and its school. He served as Eucharistic Minister at St. Anthony Hospital, and volunteered his services at Good Samaritan House and Haven of Hope. He was happiest when he was serving the needs of others or playing golf.

Gene was preceded in death by his siblings: Peter, Geraldine, Robert, Patricia, Homer, and June, children Patrick and Marie and grandchildren Erin and Thomas. He is survived by his 12 remaining children, 35 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
