Elijah Jacob (Jim, E.J.) Thigpen passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015. He was 91 years old. E.J. Was born January 3, 1924 to Mary Louise Bennett Thigpen and Elijah Jacob Thigpen. Jim is survived by his wife, Joy Thigpen, her family; four daughters; three grandchildren and one sister. Mr. Thigpen was a World War II Veteran and served 32 years' service with the Air Force and Air Force Reserve. In 1964 he was selected as training technician for Air Force One while assigned to the Presidential Unit in Washington D.C. E.J. was very proud of his military service. His military awards include the Army Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, American Theater Medal, American Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, Air Force Reserve Meritorious Service Ribbon, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and the Air Force Commendation Medal. He received a BS from Louisiana State University and his Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree from the University of Denver. Mr. Thigpen was interned at Fort Logan National Cemetery with full military honors.
