E. A. "Jack" Houser, Iii

January 17, 1930 — September 18, 2021

Everett Alvin “Jack” Houser III, 91, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away September 18, 2021. He was born January 17, 1930, in Shelby, North Carolina to Everett Alvin Houser Jr. and Elizabeth Anthony Houser.

Jack married Peggy Carter in 1957 and they had two daughters, Elizabeth and Amy. His beloved wife, Peggy preceded him in death in 2019.

A graduate of Catawba College, Salisbury, NC, Jack then served active duty with the US Navy and US Marine Corps during the Korean War 1952-55. He was employed by Travelers Indemnity Co. and served in Charlotte, NC, New York City, Hartford, CT and Denver, CO. Later on in his career, he served as President of Continental Surety and Fidelity Co. Littleton, CO. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Denver.

Upon retirement Jack served on the Boards of several organizations, Denver Rescue Mission, Denver Civic Ventures, Downtown Denver Residents Organization, Senior Housing Options and the Samaritan Institute. In August 2006 he was awarded the Minoru Yasui Community Volunteer Award. He was a member and Paul Harris Fellow of the Denver Mile High Rotary Club, and in 2008 was named Rotarian of the Year. He strongly believed in collaboration with similar organizations and delighted in seeing groups working together towards a common purpose.

In 2012 Jack and Peggy moved to Liberty Heights, a retirement community in Colorado Springs to be closer to their daughter Elizabeth and her family.

Jack is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Spafford of Colorado Springs, CO and Amy Shull of Grand Junction, CO; grandchildren, Luke and Benjamin Spafford, and Cassidee and Cooper Shull. He was also preceded in death by his brother John Anthony. Jack loved his daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren very much and was proud of their accomplishments.

A Graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 10:00am on Friday, October 22, 2021, at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Blvd, Denver, CO. Please gather at Staging Area ‘A’ by 9:45am.

A Celebration of life will be held in Colorado Springs at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Liberty Heights Senior Living Center, 12105 Ambassador Drive, Colorado Springs, CO  80921

A Memorial service will be held in Denver at 1:30pm on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1820 Broadway, Denver, CO. For those attending the service, the following link shows you the available parking for the service: https://trinityumc.org/im-new/location-parking/
