Eddie B. Gallegos

November 19, 1937 — October 18, 2019

Eddie B. Gallegos of Denver, Colorado passed away on October 18, 2019 at the age of 81.

Eddie was next to youngest of 10 children born to Celestino and Maria Delfina Gallegos. He was raised on the family farm in Canon, Colorado, in the San Luis Valley. He began working for Martin Marietta in Denver, Colorado, not long after graduation from McCurdy School in Santa Cruz, New Mexico. Drafted by the Army in 1960, he served nearly two years in Germany. Returning to work at Martin Marietta, he spent a total of 36 years and worked on many aerospace projects including the Titan Missiles, Mariner, Skylab, Viking Lander, and Space Shuttle external tanks programs. He spent time working at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La Canada, California, White Sands Missile Range in Alamogordo, New Mexico, Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. Married 55 years, he met his wife Sandra Harrison of St. Petersburg, Florida, shortly after he returned from the service. They enjoyed a long and happy life together with their children Maria and Thomas, and their families. Maria's family includes husband Joe (deceased) and children Sabastion and Samantha. Tom's family includes wife Elizabeth and children Rachel and Dominic. All the grandchildren spent many hours with Grandpa and Grandma from the time of their birth. Eddie greatly enjoyed his hunting and fishing trips with family and friends or taking a trip to San Diego to visit his brother Arthur. He and Sandra enjoyed becoming world travelers and were able to visit many cities in Europe and Asia with a local tennis group to foster cultural and friendship exchanges. Although he loved all those things, he most enjoyed being right at home working in the yard or fixing and repairing things that challenged his mechanical skills.

He was very courageous and steadfast in faith in his final days as he battled lung cancer. He spent many hours in the end reminiscing with our many family and friends who came or called from near and far. Eddie will be sorely missed by all of them. He is survived by his wife, Sandra, his daughter, Maria Woolard, and his son Thomas Gallegos and daughter in-law Elizabeth Cincetti, as well, as four grandchildren (Sabastion, Samantha, Rachel, and Dominic). Also survived by his last sibling, Arthur Gallegos.
